Frank Kenneth Mills 1929-2024

Frank Kenneth Mills was born Aug. 5, 1929 in Fort Worth, Frank and Sudie Mills. He was the second son born to them. He departed to his heavenly father Oct. 18,2024.

Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, in Biggers Funeral Chapel, followed by burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth. The family received friends from Sunday, Oct. 27, at Biggers Funeral Home. ln lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Fort Worth Firefighters Museum, P.O. Box 10521, Fort Worth, Texas 75114.

Kenneth wore many hats. He was a son, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, son-in-law, brother, brother-in law, uncle and friend.

He married Lawana Mills Aug. 12,1947 and they were married for 54 years until her death. Kenneth was a proud graduate of Northside High School.

He served in the United States Coast Guard from January 1947 to March 1948, and in the United States Marine Corps Reserves from 1949 to 1950. He loved his country dearly and was proud to be an American.

Kenneth, prior to his firefighting career, worked at General Dynamics and always did odd jobs as a painter. "Frank," as he was called by the Fort Worth Fire Department, started his career as a firefighter in 1954 and was the oldest living Fort Worth firefighter until his death. He retired as a lieutenant from the department he so loved after 38 years of service.

Kenneth loved golf, softball, cycles and flying his airplane. He was a well-known golfer in his community. Kenneth was always up for a story, and he could always tell of things many years ago that intrigued everyone around him.

He made a lasting impression on his family and everyone he came in contact with.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lawana Mills; his father, Laster Frank Mills; mother, Sudie Mills and brother, Melton Mills.

Kenneth's pallbearers were Kris Bennett, Mike Ford, Brian Knifong, Chris Wood, Coy Mills and Heath Turner.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Virginia Alston Mills; children, Kenny Mills and his wife, Robin, Randy Mills and his wife, Peggy, and Curtis Mills and his wife, Donna; five grandchildren; one step-grandson; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two nieces; his sister-in-law, and his beloved dog, " Skeeter."
