AZLE — After qualifying for the finals at seventh place during the Oct. 26 UIL Area F 5A Marching Band Contest prelims in Birdville, the Azle High School MGP’s marching season came to an end. In the final round of the competition, the band fell just short of reaching the top 5 rank it needed to go to the state competition. The MGP again placed seventh, falling just two points behind Grapevine High School who placed sixth.
Aledo, Midlothian, Colleyville Heritage, Centennial and Richland high schools rounded out the top five and advanced to state.
The MGP had a rough start to its season, tailing the rankings in some of their first contests, but turned things around after earning straight ones, the highest possible score, at the UIL Region 30 Contest at Clark Stadium in Fort Worth Oct. 17.
Parents, directors and volunteers took to Facebook following the finals results to express their pride in the Azle students and remember the countless hours of making memories and creating music that they’ve experienced over the last four months.
“That’s it, guys,” director Greg Davis said while addressing the band after their last performance. “Win, lose or draw, on Monday we’re going to keep doing band. What you did out there, no one can ever take away from you. No one can ever take away how you feel right now, doing awesome things with your friends and making memories that will last forever.”
