Popcorn Players premiere “The Butler Did It”

Posted

AZLE — This week the Azle Arts Association will introduce its final show of the 2024 season Friday, Nov. 15. Written in 1981 by Walter and Peter Marks, “The Butler Did It” is a meta murder mystery and comedy thriller. Lisha Nurmela is the production’s director.

The scene is the set where Anthony J. Lefcourt, writer and director, is rehearsing his new play, a classic “whodunit” in which all the characters are named Butler, with which he hopes to regain the success that has eluded him in recent seasons. Desperately eager to stimulate his cast to their best efforts, he has deliberately withheld the final scene of the play from them, but his patience is worn thin by the petty jealousies and romantic rivalries that detract from their concentration.

This play is rated a soft PG-13 for adult situations.

Popcorn Players Theater is located at 1012 Southeast Parkway in Azle, and tickets will be available in person, online at www.azlearts.org, or by phone at 817-238-PLAY. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, and $10 for the Sunday matinee.

In a recent newsletter, the association also unveiled its planned list of shows for 2025 which include: “Anybody Out There,” “Cocktails with Mimi,” “Laughter on the 23rd Floor,” “Peril on the High Seas,” “The Sunshine Boys,” and “Monday Always Leads to Murder.”
