SPRINGTOWN — The City of Springtown kicked off the Christmas season with its giant Christmas parade and tree lighting ceremony. On Dec. 8 at 6 p.m., the biggest parade Springtown has seen was in full effect with about a 100 floats and vehicles participating.
There was not a family out-of-sight as the whole Springtown community cheered on the parade from Fifth, Main and First Streets. The streets were merry and bright with children's light-up swords and delicious food trucks parked along the Springtown Square to feed any hungry bellies.
Some of the participants in the parade were Girl Scout Troop 2783, Boy Scouts of America Troop 303, the 2025 Springtown High School softball team, Sunset Church of Springtown and more. One church even had an entire float with a live nativity on a trailer. All city council members and city officials were on their own float and many threw out candy to the kids.
Next was the annual tree lighting with snow machines everywhere that showered attendees with falling snow. The Square Tabernacle was decked out in Christmas lights and signs plus Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus sat on the Tabernacle stage to take pictures with local children.
The next big Christmas event in Springtown is Old-Fashioned Christmas Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Assistant City Administrator Christina Derr says these events are crucial for community engagement.
“The events are an opportunity for our neighbors and friends to gather on our Square and get to know those in their community while enjoying a family friendly, entertaining event,” Derr said.
